Here’s everything you need to know about using microcement for furniture and joinery.
What is microcement?
Microcement is a blend of cement and adhesive polymers that creates a seamless coating to apply directly onto surfaces made from almost any material.
Everything You Need to Know About Microcement Joinery
Microcement has a wide range of applications for furniture and joinery, including: tables, benches, countertops, planters, desks, seating, sinks and basins, cupboards and cabinet doors, shelving and storage units. Here are the (vast) benefits of using microcement for your joinery projects.
-
You can trust microcement to be as tough as any other material. X-Bond offers outstanding technical qualities, including strong resistance to de-lamination and stains. That said, it's always a good idea to use cutting boards, placemats, and other protective items on your microcement benchtops.
-
Microcement, as an overlay, allows you to give new life to old furniture. In most cases, it can be directly applied over existing surfaces. Popular transformations include wooden tables and laminated cabinetry. This also enables designers to create custom furniture pieces that can easily be coated with microcement by your installer.
-
When applied with quality sealers, as well as waterproofing and anti-fracture membranes, microcement furniture is ideal for both internal and external settings. It’s a versatile solution that covers all your needs, whether you’re surfacing joinery in your dream kitchen or outdoor dining area.
-
Microcement is designed to replicate concrete but is only 1/4” thick, making it perfect for those who love the concrete aesthetic but need something lightweight. This also allows for application on intricate furniture shapes or in areas where heavier materials might pose a problem, such as cupboard doors.
-
The finished surface has no joints or grout lines, resulting in a smooth, continuous finish that seamlessly integrates with your microcement walls and floors.
Cleaning Microcement Furniture
Microcement furniture is crafted to be enjoyed daily, and with the right care, it will stay in excellent shape. By following our care instructions, you can ensure the longevity of your X-Bond joinery pieces.
The most important thing is to clean it periodically using water and a mild detergent only. Steer clear of products with harsh or abrasive chemicals, opting for a common household/general purpose cleaner.
Using placemats or cutting boards on tables and countertops is recommended. Clean up spills and semi-solids immediately, especially acidic or hot liquids like citrus and oil.
