The Price of Microcement (2024)
When planning your renovation or build, the price of your materials is understandably a key concern. This article might be helpful if you’re considering microcement for a residential or commercial project. We’ll supply some key information on the cost of microcement installation and the factors which influence it.
Keep reading to find out how you can get a custom microcement quote for your project in the US.
How much does microcement cost per square foot?
As each project is unique, the price for microcement installation differs per job. There’s no set price per square foot for SEMCO X-Bond Microcement. Your project will be priced individually by an installer based on a range of factors.
When providing a quote, an installer will consider:
Total square footage of the area
The substrate that the microcement will be applied over (e.g. tiles vs. concrete)
Area of the microcement application: floors, walls, ceilings, pools, or joinery
Intricacy of the job
Site location
Therefore, providing an estimate is difficult, as the final quote will depend on the above factors. We don’t want to mislead clients by providing a price without knowing the requirements of the specific job. Note that with SEMCO X-Bond, the final pricing given by your installer will be inclusive of both installation and material supply.
Does project size impact expenses?
Microcement is hand-troweled on-site by trained installers as one continuous coating, so the completion time is relatively the same whether it's a 100 sq. ft. or 1000 sq. ft. installation (for installations on the same substrate). As a result, larger areas actually tend to be more cost-effective on a per-square-foot basis compared to smaller installs on the same substrate.
How does the substrate impact installation cost?
The Remodel Without Removal system allows X-Bond to be installed directly onto almost any existing hard surface or substrate, but not all substrates call for the same application process. While minimal preparation is needed for concrete resurfacing with microcement, other substrates need a little more attention before the microcement can be installed.
Wet areas, bathrooms, installations over sheeting, and pools usually require a protective base coat like Liquid Membrane for waterproofing and anti-fracture measures. Similarly, tiles and damaged substrates will require additional preparation to create a smooth and even base ready for X-Bond Microcement. These measures are unavoidable if you want to ensure long-lasting performance.
Ultimately, resurfacing with a microcement overlay is still more cost-effective and time-efficient than demolishing an existing substrate and then installing a new one.
Do certain areas of application have different costs?
SEMCO X-Bond can be installed on floors, walls, joinery, ceilings and more in both internal and external spaces. The installation process and level of intricacy/workmanship will vary for each of these areas, which installers will take into consideration when quoting. For this reason, floors and walls are cheaper per square foot than joinery and pool applications.
